What Lies Below: Plot Synopsis
Liberty Wells, a socially shy adolescent 16 years, is a senior in high school. Michelle Wells, her mom, is a romance novelist. She returns home from camp to discover that John, an aquatic geneticist, is Libby’s mother’s new boyfriend. John presents her with a bracelet with fertility goddess motifs on it.
John assists Libby after she is bitten by a centipede. Michelle becomes ill and reveals that John has proposed to her. On the other hand, discovers that her soon-to-be stepfather has an odd behavior pattern. Libby discovers John’s research using insects. When she begins to take hormones, John notices the blood and tries to clean it up.
When Libby notices John’s damages to the immune system skin, she attempts to pull Michelle away from him. While John watches Michelle give birth to a dying creature, Libby hides. Michelle is found inside a tank with an IV and the identical symbols on her wrists and on the walls.
Marley’s body is discovered inside a water tank, being eaten by insects, by Libby. Libby is forced to ingest a bright substance that John regurgitates. She bangs on the glass as water fills her tank, but afterward laughs once she finds she can breathe underwater.
Ending Explanation of What Lies Below
During an attempt to save her mother, Liberty shuts John out of the basement. The daughter also manages to dial 911, but John sneaks through into the room and approaches her from behind. It is also the time when Liberty notices her best friend’s body submerged in fluids. Despite John’s attacks on the adolescent, she defends herself by sprinkling salt on him. Liberty eventually frees Michelle from the device, and the two of them attempt to flee the premises.
John, on the other hand, frustrates their plans. Liberty soon finds herself in a white chamber, where she is greeted by a slew of Johns. They slam their fists through the walls, revealing the bodies of numerous women.
After telling Liberty that they don’t have much time, John transfers a blue energy ball from his mouth to hers. He coerces her into swallowing it, as she passes out. Later, she awakens in a water-filled glass chamber. She’s surrounded by the many women who have been preyed on by John within the past. She attempts but fails to free herself.
That movie’s closing shot reveals that Libby has turned into a water-breathing monster herself, and also that John must have succeeded.
