Siddhant Chaturvedi, Katrina Kaif, and Ishan Khattar play the main characters in the Gurmeet Singh-directed film Phonebooth. In this horror comedy, a ghost approaches two ghostbusters with a business idea, but when the ghost exposes her plans, everything goes awry. Writing credit for the movie goes to Jasvinder Bath and Ravi Shankaran.

The movie was released on November 4 of 2022. The movie has many pop culture allusions as well as overt comedies that may make you laugh. Having said that, the movie’s finale is rather disorganized and fails to really engage the viewer. The movie makes allusions to the wackiest horror flicks, popular commercials, and internet memes.

Storyline

Two pals, Major and Gullu are depicted at the start of the movie to be quite interested in horror-related topics and have aspirations of pursuing professions in the genre. During a party, they meet a stunning woman who, upon closer inspection, turns out to be a ghost who offers them a business proposition.

She wanted to work with them to help the other spirits who were waiting for redemption, so they interacted with her normally because they had abilities. The lads, however, are not in favor of her proposal. The lads change their minds, though, when their dads visit them the next day and inform them that they will no longer provide for them financially and that they must return the five crore rupees that they have already spent on them.

Yet, they decide to steal her concept and set up a phone booth with the assistance of which they would become free spirits rather than conduct business with the woman. This plan fails, and they quickly become the subject of internet jokes.

They get a call from Panchgani one day asking them to release a ghost. When they get there, they discover that the call came from the mysterious woman they met at the party and who revealed herself to them. The three of them begin working cooperatively to free the spirit after the unidentified woman Ragini gave them the task after the boys stole her idea. However, they are soon interrupted by an evil tantrik who kidnaps spirits by promising to bring them salvation but ultimately uses them for evil purposes.

Cast

As Major and Gullu, the ghostbusters, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ishaan Khattar are portrayed. Their on-screen banter is delightful to see. Ragini, the most beautiful “bhootni,” is shown as Katrina Kaif. Ragini is on a quest. Jackie Shroff, who captures ghosts in bottles, is portraying the part of the wicked Tantric. In supporting roles, Sheeba Chaddha, Armaan Ralhan, Manuj Sharma, and Shrikant Varma have also appeared.

Music

There are all together for songs in the film. Out of which the hit tracks with groovy moves are “Kinni Sonna” and “Kaali Teri Gutt”. The other tracks “Phone Booth Theme” and “Jaau Jaan Se” seem to be less pleasing to the audience.

Review

The film is set apart from the rest of the horror comedy films that the audiences have seen so far. The first half of the film lags until the entry of Jackie Shroff who kind of raise the comedy quotient but then again the chaotic climax leaves the audience in despair.
