Are You Human is a 36-episode South Korean television sitcom that debuted in 2018 and stars Seo Kang-joon and Gong.

It’s a science fiction series with elements of romance, politics, and mystery. It originally aired on 2KBS from June 4 to August 7, and is now available on Netflix.

During a corporate power struggle, a robot (Seo Kang Joon) is brought in to imitate a chaebol heir who is in a coma. As he learns about humanity and finds who he is, he forms a close bond with his bodyguard (Gong Seung Yeon).

Are You Human Season 1: What Is This About?

Seo Kang Joon portrays both the human Nam Shin and the robot Nam Shin III in this film. Nam Shin, a human, was stolen from his mother when he was a child and nurtured by his wealthy and unscrupulous family. As a result, he became a self-centered and irritable individual. However, an accident puts him in a coma, jeopardising both his job and his life.

Nam Shin III was created to fill a void in his mother’s heart left by the death of his genuine son. And he’s a sweet, charming robot that adores his mother and strives to please her. He also wants to protect humans, and when they weep, he tends to hug them. As a result, when he is told to imitate human Nam Shin, he leaps straight in and does everything he can to save human Nam Shin’s life.

Shin’s bodyguard is Gong Seung Yeon. So Bong it is. Life has thrown her a few curve balls, forcing her to do anything she can to supplement her income. Even if it’s done in an unethical manner.

With her being a bodyguard as well as being a bit cynical and out for money at first, her character stands out among many female leads. But she’s a nice girl, and it was fun to see her gradually open up her heart and become Shin III’s biggest supporter.

Ji Young Hoon’s secretary is Lee Joon Hyuk. He is human Shin’s right-hand man, and he also serves as Shin III’s right-hand man. He is fiercely loyal to human Shin, which causes him some consternation as he becomes closer to robot Shin III.

Seo Jong Gil (Yoo Oh Sung) is a ruthless villain on a mission to overthrow Shin in order to gain more power. Yoo Oh Sung’s performances have always been a highlight for me. He’s a fantastic villain who has a lot of subtlety. And this was the epitome of a fun-to-hate villain.

Then there’s Grandpa (Park Young Kyu), who is the firm’s CEO and would go to any length to defend it, even if it means putting the corporation ahead of his family.

Finally, there’s Shin’s mother, Oh Ro Ra (Kim Sung Ryung). She’s the robotics engineer that constructed Shin III as a way to cope with the loss of her kid. And when she has the opportunity to assist him, she is willing to go to any length to assist him, even if it puts Shin III in risk.

It ended up being a blend of melodrama and science fiction, with a splash of rom-com thrown in for good measure. It was an effective mix for me. As the stakes grew higher, I became increasingly invested in the show.

Are You Human Season 1: Ending Explanation

Although there are many interesting relationships to investigate, one that was found intriguing was the one between human Shin and robot Shin III. This is a difficult circumstance in which these two find themselves. None of it is, of course, Shin III’s fault. He was made and given instructions. Then he attempted to put people first in whatever he did.

Humans, to be sure. Shin is irritated that a robot with his face is roaming about pretending to be him. Actually, his reaction is perfectly understandable. Shin, on the other hand, is a tough character on many levels. On the one hand, he had a terrible childhood and has every reason to seek vengeance and be less than polite. He is despondent and lonely.

At the very last, he assisted in the rescue of our beloved Shin III, allowing him to be reunited with his family.

CONCLUSION

Are You Human is a fun story that took on some amazing character adventures. The romance was nice and well-integrated into the plot. The play had a lovely message and was thoughtful. Its theatrical qualities with a dash of action appealed to me, as did the fact that it was able to ramp up the tension as the drama progressed. All the way through the last episode, there are a few surprises and plenty of thrills. All of this adds up to an excellent overall experience.
