Bird Box, the Netflix horror film that sparked the ludicrous viral craze known as the Bird Box blindfolded challenge, was a huge success. Many fans would like to see a follow-up to the post-apocalyptic thriller.
Bird Box 2 is occurring, according to Josh Malerman, the author of the novel on which the film is based. He couldn’t say much, but he did reveal that Bird Box 2 is in the works at Netflix. When asked about the upcoming chapter in the scary franchise, he was chatting to Inverse.
“I can’t say much, but I can say that it’s in the works.” It’s strange at times, all this secrecy, but I’m up for it.”
It’s hardly surprising that Netflix would want to develop a sequel to Bird Box, given that the first film was one of the most-watched movies in Netflix history, with roughly 26 million viewers in the first seven days, according to Nielson.
And now that we know for certain that Bird Box 2 is on the way, one of the biggest unknowns is when Netflix will release the highly anticipated sequel.
Malorie releases the birds and ultimately gives the children names, Tom and Olympia, recognizing herself as their mother.

Spoiler Alert for the Upcoming Plot of Bird Box 2!
We all know how the film ended, and the audience was kept in the dark about who the creature was. Malorie will pick up where the first film left off. Malorie and the kids are blinded as they journey down the river in a boat, carrying the birds as a warning against the spirits. The boat twists in the rapids, but they eventually find each other.
When Malorie falls down a hill, the ghosts try to persuade the children to remove their blindfolds by using Malorie’s voice. Malorie regains consciousness and informs the children of her whereabouts. They quickly arrive at the community, which was formerly a blind school.
Malorie releases the birds and ultimately gives the children names, Tom and Olympia, recognising herself as their mother.
Malorie, Tom, and Olympia must walk out onto the street with their blindfolds on again in the upcoming sequel. To confront a foe they can’t see. Perhaps Malorie will encounter other survivors in the sequel, and we will learn more about the monster. Though there hasn’t been an official announcement about the film’s release date, Malerman’s statements confirm that there will be a sequel.
