When asked how Black Adam differs from Superman and Batman, Dwayne Johnson explained that most superheroes have a code of ethics and a “line of integrity,” while Black Adam blurs the borders between hero and villain.

Dwayne Johnson will make his DCEU debut in the much-anticipated Black Adam, in which he will portray the eponymous character. In an interview with Men’s Journal, Johnson stated that he feels he was born to portray the character. When asked how he differs from Superman and Batman, he stated that most superheroes have a code of ethics and “a line of integrity,” while Black Adam blurs the borders between good and bad, hero and villain.

Black Adam

“One of the things that hooked me to Black Adam was his genesis storey,” he said. He began as an enslaved person. When you have a character or a human being that has been wrongly kept down by others, it means so much more when they begin to rise.”

Black Adam was originally scheduled to appear in David F Sandberg’s Shazam! as a supervillain/anti-hero and Shazam’s arch-nemesis, but it was later decided to launch Black Adam in a standalone film instead.

In the New 52 narrative, there was a youngster named Aman who lived in the fictitious Arab kingdom of Kahndaq. He was sold into slavery when he was a child. He had an uncle named Adam who assisted Aman in escaping slavery but was hurt in the process. Aman, like Billy Batson in Shazam!, was transported to the Rock of Eternity and bestowed with superpowers. Aman used his skills with his uncle to cure Adam, but Adam desired retribution.

Adam appears to have slain Aman. In the comic book origin storey of Shazam, while fighting Black Adam, Shazam shares his superpowers with the ‘Shazam family’ while Adam holds them captive.

Black Adam

“Black Adam emerges with a big fucking chip on his shoulder—and an edge,” Johnson added. As we all know, in the conventional DC Universe, if you do something wrong, Superman and Batman will strive to bring you to justice. If you do something wrong to Black Adam, you will die. It’s as easy as that. I feel this character will provide a distinct twist to the superhero genre. We’re going to flip conventional assumptions on their heads.”
