In 2021, James Wan, the filmmaker behind smash horror film franchises like The Conjuring and Insidious, produced Malignant, another unnerving banger of a film. The film, a slasher with an unexpected twin twist, is already regarded as a cult classic, and because to its somewhat open ending, fans are hungry for another chapter in the terrible plot. Spoilers are ahead!
Malignant introduced us to Madison (Annabelle Wallis), who is revealed to be hiding a dark secret following a series of gruesome killings.
In the first film, it was revealed that her twin Gabriel, who resembled a sentient tumour in the back of her head, was a vicious genius intent on killing everyone around her and regaining control of her body for good. Fortunately, Madison defeated Gabriel in the conclusion of Malignant. However, many questions remained unanswered, and Madison’s fate (and possibly jail) following Gabriel’s deadly spree remained unknown.

Is There Going To Be A Malignant 2?
There are currently no official plans for a Malignant sequel, however don’t count out the potential of a Malignant 2.
In an interview with GamesRadar, Wan stated that while he was not opposed to the concept of turning Malignant into a franchise, it was also not his objective. He also made it plain that the choice will be made by the studio, not him.
“It’s a hard question,” he said. “In the end, anything can become a franchise.” They’ll figure it out. Take a look at Saw. When Leigh Whannell and I created Saw, we thought, ‘Jigsaw gets up and closes the door.’
‘This is the end.’ Then, after the film’s success, the producers and studio said, ‘Guys, we have to do another one.'” “So, yeah, Malignant may become a franchise,” he said. But I only wanted to make this movie.”
Whether or not Warner Bros. decides to make Malignant a franchise is likely to be determined by how well the picture performs in cinemas and on HBO Max. All we can do now is wait and see!

Malignant 2 Release Date: When Will Malignant 2 Be Available?
Malignant 2 currently has no set release date because the sequel has not yet been greenlit (sorry). But don’t worry, Gabriel fans: a sequel may be on the way soon. During a November 2021 interview, actor Annabelle Wallis indicated that “conversations” about Malignant 2 were taking place.
Similarly, despite Malignant’s box office failure when it was released in September 2021, collecting only $34 million against a $40 million budget, there is still a lot of interest in the film because it has franchise maestro director James Wan on board.
With the current and extremely profitable emergence of horror series such as Halloween, Scream, and Wan’s own Conjuring films, expanding on the realm of Malignant with the popular director will definitely be appealing to Warner Bros.
Are you still not convinced? Well, Malignant is also one of the nominees for the fan favourite category at the 94th Academy Awards, so there is clearly a market for more slasher fun! However, it should be mentioned that Wan is presently working on the DCEU picture Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.
So, even if Malignant 2 goes into production, it is unlikely to be released before 2023. We will keep you updated as soon as we receive any new information.
