Morbius is a 2022 American superhero film based on Marvel Comics that stars Morbius, the Living Vampire and is co-produced by Columbia Pictures and Marvel. It is the third instalment in Sony Pictures Releasing’s Spider-Man Universe, and it is released by Sony Pictures Releasing (SSU). It stars Jared Leto as Dr. Michael Morbius, along with Matt Smith, Adria Arjona, Jared Harris, Al Madrigal, and Tyrese Gibson, and is directed by Daniel Espinosa and written by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. Morbius becomes a living vampire after healing himself of a rare ailment in the film.

Sony began producing a film based on Morbius after revealing plans for a new shared world of films centred on Spider-Man characters, beginning with Venom (2018). Sazama and Sharpless had written a script by November 2017, and Leto and Espinosa had formally joined in June 2018. Work continued in earnest towards the end of the year, with more casting, with production set to begin in London in February 2019. Filming was confirmed to be finished by June 2019.

Morbius debuted on March 10, 2022, in the Plaza Carso in Mexico City, and was released in the United States on April 1, 2022, after being delayed numerous times from its planned July 2020 release date, mostly due to the COVID-19 epidemic. Critics panned the picture, with many calling it uninspired and antiquated, however Leto and Smith’s performances garnered some appreciation.

Morbius: Full Storyline Explained

In a luxury hospital in Greece, 10-year-old Michael Morbius meets his new surrogate brother Lucien, whom he renames Milo, and they bond over their common blood disease and desire to be “normal.” Nicholas, their adopted father and hospital director, arranges for Michael to attend medical school in New York while he concentrates on Milo.

Twenty-five years later, Michael officially refuses a Nobel Prize for his work with synthetic blood, just as his colleague and fiancée Martine Bancroft finds he has covertly collected scores of vampire bats from Costa Rica in the hopes of fusing their genes with his own to heal his illness. Michael secures cash to prepare a private mercenary vessel in international seas with his equipment after telling Nicholas and Milo of his planned experiment.

While his treatment is working, it changes him into a vampiric superhuman, and he murders and consumes the crew’s blood, save for Bancroft, who attacks him out of terror. When his bloodlust diminishes and he regains consciousness, a horrified Michael erases all CCTV evidence of his experiment before alerting authorities and plunging overboard.

When Michael returns to New York City, he realises he has superhuman strength, speed, reflexes, and echolocation talents, and he survives on his synthetic blood until it gets less potent throughout. Milo finds that Michael is healed when FBI agents Simon Stroud and Al Rodriguez examine Michael’s victims and infer his participation, but becomes enraged when the latter refuses to treat him as well. Michael discovers a dead nurse, drained of her blood, while checking on a sick Bancroft.

He tries to flee, believing he is to blame, before being captured and jailed. Michael is visited in jail by a disguised Milo, who promises to use his fortune to release him. When Michael realises Milo stole his cure and murdered the nurse, he flees to face him. Milo admits to his atrocities, stating that he did so out of bloodlust, before asking Michael to embrace his powers in the same way that he has. Michael runs, unwilling to cause harm to his brother.

The next day, Michael meets with a resurrected Bancroft to explain what Milo has done before purchasing a new lab and producing an anticoagulant to commit suicide since he will be unable to resist his bloodlust. Stroud and Rodriguez discover video of one of Milo’s attacks and distribute it to the media. Recognizing Milo, Nicholas locates him and begs him to stop.

Milo, enraged by Nicholas’ apparent fondness for Michael, mortally wounds him before forcing him to contact Michael. While Milo attacks Bancroft, Michael answers, runs to Nicholas’ side, and sees him die. When Michael returns to her, she dies in his arms, and he swallows her blood.

When Michael confronts Milo again, he conjures an army of bats to help him confine Milo while injecting him with the anticoagulant.

Milo dies, crying as he accepts the name Michael gave him, and Michael flies out with the bats, mourning his loved ones and embracing his identity as a vampire. Bancroft is resurrected by her newly evolved vampiric powers, unbeknownst to him.

In other news, Adrian Toomes is transferred to Morbius realm by a spell. After getting a duplicate of his flight suit, he locates and approaches Morbius, proposing that they form a team.
