Nightbooks, a children’s horror fantasy that premiered on Netflix on September 15th, is a fantastic family-friendly start to the Halloween season for the streaming service.
The Netflix original is based on J.A. White’s book of the same name, which is presently among the Top 10 most watched movies on the platform. The film transports viewers to the apartment of Natacha, a witch who draws children into her home so that they will do her bidding.
Alex, a little kid, is one of these children. He’s a young writer who specialises in horror fiction, which the witch requires. She’s read every horror novel she owns and is prepared to threaten the youngster with death or worse if he doesn’t tell her a horrific story every night.
Nightbooks is a story about embracing who you are, no matter who puts you down because of it, as witnessed via Alex’s blossoming friendship with fellow hostage Yasmine. The film contains mild jump scares, severe and frightening circumstances, multiple fights against demonic monsters, and a brutally mischievous cat familiar.
It has all of the requirements for a good horror offering for kids, and it delivers, so the next question is if Netflix plans to release a sequel. Here’s what we’ve learned thus far. Read More: Goosebumps: Ending Explanation
Spoiler of Nightbooks Sequel
The Nightbooks’ conclusion indicates that there is much more to come in this eerie universe. Alex (Winslow Fegely) and his friend Yazmin (Lidya Jewett) successfully elude the witch who kidnapped them, Natacha (Krysten Ritter), and are now living happily ever after in the outer world.
We then cut back to the witch’s apartment just before the credits roll. We see the witch’s collection of child figurines, which, according to Yazmin, is what happened to all of Natacha’s other kidnapped and killed children.
We see Natacha’s clawed, sequenced hand slam down on the table and hear her signature evil cackle as one of the figurines moves slightly. Clearly, this witch hasn’t finished hurting children. Read More: Devil in Ohio: Release Date | Plot | Cast
This is identical to the conclusion of J.A. White’s 2018 children’s book of the same name, on which the film is based (authored by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis). While there aren’t any more books in the series (yet), it doesn’t exclude out a Nightbooks sequel if the film does well on Netflix. Here’s what we know so far regarding a Nightbooks sequel.
Will There Be a Sequel of Nightbooks?
At the time, there are no formal plans for a Nightbooks sequel. Nightbooks director David Yarovesky, on the other hand, seems open to the notion of Nightbooks movies in an earlier interview with Decider.
In the film’s open-ended ending scene, “the author of the book, like baked into the book a hint to more coming,” Yarovesky remarked. “Who knows?” says the speaker.
Who knows what the future has in store for us? But I believe there is a lot more story in this universe, and I believe that this story could be only the beginning.”
When asked if he’d return to film a Nightbooks sequel, Yarovesky said emphatically, “Yes.” “I adore the universe,” he declared. Characters are fantastic. If I were given the opportunity to manufacture more of these, I would gladly do so.”
