Full Story Explanation:

During their vacation in Tuscany, Dutch parents Patrick and Karin and their son Abel, who they claim was born without a tongue due to congenital aglossia, meet Danish parents Bjrn and Louise and their daughter Agnes. A few weeks later, the Dutch couple extends an invitation to Bjrn and Louise to visit their isolated country home in the Netherlands, and they accept. The family reaches their destination eight hours after setting out. During the first two days, Louise is uncomfortable with the hosts’ passive-aggressive actions, such as Patrick not understanding that she is a vegetarian, his mistreatment of Abel, or Karin’s profanity.

The hosts invite their visitors to a dinner out, but Louise worries because the kids have to stay with Abel’s babysitter, Muhajid, and aren’t coming. Patrick challenges her vegetarianism at the dinner, which makes her worries worse, and the couple makes out in public while intoxicated. Patrick repeatedly blasts loud music while operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, upsetting Louise after tricking Bjrn into paying for the meal. She is taking a shower when he walks in, and he later witnesses the couple having sex. Agnes begs to sleep next to her parents, but they ignore her, so Patrick puts her in their bed. When Louise discovers Agnes dozing on the bed next to a naked Patrick, she wakes her husband, and the family departs. However, Agnes soon returns home upon discovering that her rabbit doll Ninus is missing.

The hosts confront them about their unexpected departure once they are back at the house, acting angry and disappointed. Louise briefly expresses what bothered her because Bjrn isn’t direct enough. Despite her apology, Karin presses her to explain why Agnes was forced to share their bed. They ultimately persuade their guests to remain. While the men go grocery shopping, the women work in the yard. As they make their way home, Bjrn and Patrick become closer as the former tries to explain how he frequently suppresses his emotions, which compromises his true self. Patrick brings him to the shore, where they engage in screaming therapy. Patrick lies about being a doctor and is unemployed, as the couple later learns when Louise cuts her finger in the kitchen. Following dinner, the kids perform a dance they had practised together; Patrick abuses Abel for his errors and throws a glass at him, which causes Bjrn to argue with him.

That evening, Bjrn finds a cabin hidden behind the house and discovers a collection of empty suitcases and cameras inside. The Dutch couple’s pattern of deceiving families to murder them, kidnap their child, amputate the child’s tongue, and use the “mute” child to repeat the cycle is suggested by a large number of pictures of Patrick and Karin with other families with young children on vacation that he also finds on the wall among the collection. Bjrn understands that he and his family will be the couple’s upcoming victims. Bjrn discovers Abel’s body in the pool while on his way to get his family. They can flee, but Bjrn doesn’t inform his wife of his find.

Bjrn’s family is trapped inside Patrick’s car when he returns after being forced to leave after their car breaks down and looking for assistance nearby. For the sake of the security of his family, he obeys Patrick and keeps quiet in the vehicle. Louise eventually develops suspicions, and Patrick commands her to shut up while he now beats Bjrn into submission. When he stops the car, Muhajid grabs Louise while Karin amputates Agnes’ tongue. Muhajid then departs with Agnes, and her parents are taken to a deserted road. Patrick calmly responds, “Because you let me,” when Bjrn asks the Danish couple why they are torturing them before instructing them to undress. Then they are instructed to enter a ditch, where they are later stoned to death. Bjrn and Louise. A while later, the Dutch couple are planning their subsequent possible murder when a mute Agnes is forced to assume the role of the Dutch couple’s daughter
