On July 9, 2015, the sixth and final season of Teen Wolf, an American supernatural drama produced by Jeff Davis and based in part on the 1985 film of the same name, earned a 20-episode order, which began on November 15, 2016. On July 30, 2017, the second half of the season premiered.
Instead than telling a single tale like the previous season, this season was broken into two 10-episode arcs, similar to the third season’s style. The cast announced at Comic-Con on July 21, 2016, that the show would terminate after its sixth season. On September 24, 2017, the final episode aired.
Will Teen Wolf Season 7 Return In 2022?
Teen Wolf’s cast met in 2020 to chat about their time on the show. Davis claimed that he was still asked questions regarding Season 7 years after it was (presumably) cancelled. While the writer was open to the idea, he did reveal that if a revival did happen, he would not be writing the story.
Fortunately for fans of the show, this turned out to be false. The internet was buzzing in September 2021 with breaking news about an upcoming Teen Wolf sequel film. It is scheduled to be released in 2022.

Teen Wolf Was Cancelled by MTV for a Variety of Reasons
According to the facts, Teen Wolf most likely ended because it was cancelled due to low ratings. Season 7 was never shown due to a number of factors. In 2016, MTV began to shift its focus to unscripted programming. In April of that year, the cable network purchased 11 unscripted projects, including a music competition from Mark Burnett, the producer of successful shows including The Voice, Survivor, and Shark Tank.
To capitalize on its expanding popularity, it also sanctioned reality competitions and multiple docuseries. To balance things out, MTV picked up a few scripted shows, but unlike Teen Wolf, it’s clear that they were focused more on their unscripted content.
Furthermore, since season 3, when it peaked with an average of 1.97 million viewers, Teen Wolf’s ratings have been steadily falling.
Teen Wolf’s audience share dipped somewhat in season 4, to 1.61 million viewers, which was still manageable, but by season 5, the series had plummeted, with only 1.07 million tuning in on average.

By the final season, the average viewership had dropped to slightly over half a million. It’s possible that the general public had lost interest in Teen Wolf and where it was headed, but the departure of several cast members over the years could have also played a factor.
Tyler Hoechlin, Colton Hayes, and Arden Cho, who played Derek Hale, Jackson Whittemore, and Kira Yukimura, respectively, have all left their roles. Teen Wolf had to work around O’Brien’s injuries while filming Maze Runner: The Death Cure, that led them to use Stiles sparingly in season 6.
Many long-time fans were disappointed, as they had hoped for the return of some Teen Wolf characters and more interaction between them in season 7. (such as Stiles and Scott).
