The New Mutants is a superhero horror film based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name that will be released in 2020. It is the thirteenth and last installment in the X-Men film series, and it is a spin-off. Josh Boone directed the picture, which stars Maisie Williams, Anya Taylor-Joy, Charlie Heaton, Alice Braga, Blu Hunt, and Henry Zaga and is based on a script he co-wrote with Knate Lee. A gang of adolescent mutants imprisoned in a secret facility battle to save themselves in the film.
After Boone finished The Fault in Our Stars, he and Lee started working on the film (2014). In May 2015, the two formally signed on to the project after pitching a potential film trilogy to X-Men producer Simon Kinberg.
Taylor-Joy and Williams were first believed to be cast in March 2016, and their casting was confirmed a year later when the rest of the cast was completed. From July to September 2017, filming took place in Boston, Massachusetts, largely at Medfield State Hospital, with an April 2018 release date in mind. The picture was then postponed as reshoots were planned, and Disney began the process of acquiring 20th Century Fox, the film’s production company. Boone returned to work on the film when the acquisition was completed, and it was completed without reshoots in March 2020.

Release Date for New Mutants 2
The House of Ideas is apparently intending to revive the mutant superhero property as part of the MCU now that the X-Men are under Marvel Studios’ banner.
If New Mutants 2 is made, they may choose to keep the franchise distinct from the rest of the MCU in order to avoid any confusion regarding the characters and their (lack of) link to the rebooted X-Men films. New Mutants 2 would not be released until 2022 in either of these scenarios.

Why Is It Unlikely That Disney Will Make a New Mutants Film?
Despite all of the speculation, Disney is unlikely to produce a sequel to New Mutants. New Mutants is only expected to gross $10 million in the United States, so it will need to do significantly better worldwide just to break even.
Furthermore, with the rest of the X-Men franchise (with the exception of Deadpool) being relaunched, there isn’t really a home for the film at the studio post-Fox takeover from a creative standpoint. New Mutants continues to be a problem film for Disney, and they’re definitely dumping it in theatres right now (during a pandemic, no less) to be done with it, similar to how they shipped the tardy Artemis Fowl straight to Disney+ earlier this year.
There have been many long-awaited films that have gone on to be successful in the past, but it appears like Boone’s comic book adaption will not be one of them.
