The Silent Sea: Storyline Explanation
Government and corporate corporations are attempting to come up with strategies to cut water usage in a futuristic dystopian society where the land is barren and there is tremendous water shortage, and laypeople are protesting supply rules as inequities in water access have increased.
The SAA approaches Dr. Song Ji-an (Bae Doona), a former astrobiologist, about joining a trip to the Balhae Lunar Research Centre, where 117 crew members died five years ago due to a radioactive leak. Her sister was one of the crew members who died in the sad event, and as consolation, she was given a gold card that allows her to freely obtain water.
Captain Han Yoon-jae (Gong Yoo), Ryoo Tae-seok (Lee Joon), and Hong Ga-young (Kim Sun-young) are among the ten members of the crew. Dr. Song begins to have numerous questions as the mission is outlined to the crew, as they are given very little information. “We just have to do as we’re instructed,” the captain says, dismissing her. They’ve been given a 24-hour assignment to retrieve a vital sample before the station is permanently shut down and they return to Earth.
As the team prepares to take off, they see that the co-pilot has been replaced, which makes everyone suspicious. They are forced to make an emergency landing due to a system malfunction, which results in the death of one of the crew members. The spacecraft begins to sink as it approaches a cliff, but everyone makes it out just in time. “The water, don’t,” says the injured crew member as he dies.
Everyone enters the station just as their oxygen supplies run out, and as they stroll around, they come across a person who appears to have drowned. This perplexes them, but the typical radiation levels in the station appear to be even more perplexing. Dr. Song is adamant that they look into the cause of death of the person they discovered, as it is now evident that radiation leaks were not to blame.

They continue forward to find samples from the three storages after comprehending the arrangement of the station and allocating locations. Some of them discover other dead during the hunt, and the co-pilot is assaulted and slain by an unknown entity that also takes the sample. Another crew member appears to be stricken with a virus that causes him to uncontrollably vomit water. Because all of the comms are down, they are unable to report all of the strange events taking place on the station to the authorities on Earth.
They contact the officials and request a rescue ship, but the mission is delayed due to the existence of an unknown signal, which is subsequently revealed as the co-secret pilot’s device.
They must now not only retrieve the samples, but also locate and kill the invader. They also discover that the sample they’ve come to collect is water, water that multiplies and has the potential to fix all of Earth’s problems. They understand that if they can regulate this multiplying water, they will have all the water humanity will ever need after discovering a secret storage room packed with plants.

The Silent Sea: Ending Explanation
The intruder, who is a tiny girl, appears wherever they find the sample of lunar water. Because she is the only survivor of the crew’s five-year-old experiments on tiny girls, the moon water aids her healing and provides her with superhuman physical abilities. Her body also appears to create antibodies that prevent the lunar water from multiplying in an uncontrollable manner in other humans.
In the midst of it all, one of the crew members, Ryoo Tae-seok, goes rogue and begins murdering other members of the group. As a co-pilot, he appears to be employed by Resource Exploration for Space Mining and Planetary Development (RX).
Dr. Song’s sister worked at the Balhae station as the lead researcher and was one of those who died five years ago. She sends Dr. Song a message before she dies, “Find Luna,” and it is for this reason that she agrees to join the expedition.
This is why she wants to preserve Luna and transport her to the International Institute of Space Biology, where she believes the research can continue in a more impartial environment.

Captain Han’s daughter is ill, and the physicians can’t do anything because he’s at a lower water level. He agrees because he wants to save his daughter and believes that this expedition is his best chance. Initially, he was skeptical.
He first has no objection to Luna being used in studies for the greater good, but later he recognizes his own daughter in her and even gives her a badge with his daughter’s sticker on it.
