The rating provided by IMDb sorts the top 5 Bengali horror movies of 2022, and the list goes the following way :

Kankal (1950):

It is a horror drama show directed and written by Naresh Mitra, with stars Paresh Banerjee, Shishir Batabyal, and Dhiraj Bhattacharya, and has a running time of 1 hour and 54 minutes. Kankal is a social horror drama that depicts how a spirit’s strong will can fulfill its desire. The plot opens with Abhay being slain by a skeleton, and the police arriving for an inspection. Dr. Sanyal returns us to the account of Tarala’s marriage to Rattan, a wealthy man. However, Tarala’s sister-in-law, Abhay, was in love with Tarala, whom Tarala disliked because of his terrible attitude and lack of education. As a kind of retaliation, Abhay married Rattan’s sister. Abhay grabbed all of his money by molding rattan and attempted to rape Tarala. Rattan arrived to save her but was chased away by Abhay. Tarala died accidentally in this situation, and Abhay attempted to hide her body by dumping it in the river. Rattan grew enraged when he couldn’t find his wife and wandered around looking for her. Finally, he was observed by Dr. Sanyal, and they discovered Tarala’s skeleton. Tarala snatched Abhay’s life in the form of a skeleton and thus punished him for his misdeeds when he arrived at Dr. Sanyal’s for his x-ray.

Golpo Holeo Shotti (2014):

IMDb rated this movie a solid 6.4/10 with a running time of 1 hour and 56 minutes. It is a horror thriller movie by Birsa Dasgupta, Director of the Movie, and Debaloy Bhattacharya, the Writer (Screenplay and Dialogue). The stars include Soham Chakraborty, Mimi Chakraborty, and Rajatabha Dutta. The story revolves around Rudra (Soham), a pizza delivery boy, and Anuradha, a ghost novelist (Mimi). The story begins with their love story. The couple is in a live-in relationship. When Rudra goes to a specific residence to deliver a pizza, the plot twists. Strange things happen, and the film becomes a horror film. This horror film digs into Rudra’s psychiatric illness, in which he begins to question whether Anuraddha exists in reality. To summarise, Golpo Holeo Shotti is a worthwhile movie for horror fans. Go watch it, drop some popcorn… Just don’t get too much ketchup on yourself or you’ll be mistaken for a ghost!

Manihara (2015):

IMDb rated the movie a solid 6.2/10 with a total running time of about 2 hours. It is a horror movie with Shubhabrata Chatterjee as director and Joydip Banerjee as a writer. The stars in the cast include Biplab Chatterjee, Biswanath Basu, and Argha Deep Chatterjee. Monideepa (Sohini) Chowdhury is the wife of businessman Arun Chowdhury (Neel). She vanishes after receiving a mysterious letter. Arun hires retired CBI officer and private investigator Rudrajit Roy to look into his wife’s disappearance (Chiranjeet). However, the narrative is not as straightforward as it appears. The film begins two years before the disappearance and follows the uncanny story back. When it comes to the plot, it appears that the script needs some tweaking. For example, Rudrajit always carries Moni’s last letter with him, but its contents are never divulged. Why does it pique his interest? What’s the big deal about it? Second, the plot spans two years without explaining what happens in the interim. Why have things suddenly changed after two years? There is no logical explanation. Such flaws are not to be expected in a film that is supposed to be a completely new take on an old narrative. But, as I mentioned earlier, Manihara is an excellent watch. And I’m confident you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

Kuasha Jakhon (2018):

IMDb rated the movie a solid 8.9/10 with a total run time of 1 hour 44 minutes. It is also a paranormal romance movie with Abhishek and Meenakshi as its directors and Abhjit Mallick, Meenakshi, and Abhishek Roy as its writers. The cast includes Aninydya Pulak Banerjee, Rishav Basu, and Gargi Roy Chowdhury. It is quite unusual that we approach a subject like paranormal romance in Indian cinema, and “KUASHA JAKHON” is undoubtedly a very different and difficult attempt at filmmaking that can genuinely provide the Bengal audience a true cinematic delight. Anindya Banerjee transforms a haunting zamindar’s home into a hotel. Soon, the hotel’s workers and guests are subjected to terrifying paranormal encounters, and Amitabha’s business faces a crisis. When Amitabha brings Alex, an occult specialist he found on the internet, to the property, he discovers the love tragedy that haunts the mansion.

Bhoy (2011):

IMDb rated the movie a solid 8/10 with a run time of 2 hours. Bhoy is also a horror movie with Suvendu Ghosh as director. Its cast includes Amitava Bhattacharya, Abhishek Chatterjee, and Biplab Chatterjee. Amitabha “Amitabha” and Rupsha “Monami” Chakraborty’s search for a suitable home leads them to a bungalow that appears to be appropriate for their requirements. Despite finding that the previous tenant, “Tanusri,” had committed suicide, the couple moves in. The trouble begins right away. During the day, the maid and guard enter Rupsha’s space with dark, knowing smiles, and at night, she is kept awake by the sound of sorrowful lullabies issuing from behind closed doors. Windows crack, utensils break, toys begin to talk, and everything comes to a head when the guard is brutally murdered.
