Thor from Marvel Comics appeared in the 2022 American superhero film Thor: Love and Thunder, which was produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures. As the 29th movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it is the 2017 follow-up to Thor: Ragnarok. Chris Hemsworth plays Thor in the movie, which is directed by Taika Waititi and also features Christian Bale, Tessa Thompson, Jaimie Alexander, Waititi, Russell Crowe, and Natalie Portman. Jennifer Kaytin Robinson and Waititi both contributed to the writing of the script.
The Phase Four MCU movie Thor: Love and Thunder had its world debut on June 23, 2022, at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre, and it was released to the general public on July 8, 2022. Reviews praised the movie for its humor, the visuals, and Bale and Portman’s performances, however, they criticized the narrative and the inconsistent tonal tone, with several critics saying Ragnarok was superior. Thor: Thunder and Love Details of the Story Explanation
The last of their race, Gorr, and his daughter Love struggle in a desolate desert. Love passes away in spite of their petitions to their god Rapu. Gorr responds to the god-killing Necrosword’s summons, which takes him to Rapu’s verdant world. Gorr renounces the deity after Rapu mercilessly mocks and ignores his situation, which leads Rapu to strangle him. Gorr accepts the Necrosword and uses it to murder Rapu before pledging to kill all gods. Under the influence of the blade, Gorr gains the ability to control shadows and create creatures but is also cursed with imminent death and corruption. Thor, who has joined the Guardians of the Galaxy, finds out about a distress transmission from Sif after Gorr kills several gods.
He leaves the group and comes upon a hurt Sif, who informs him that New Asgard is Gorr’s next target. Dr. Jane Foster, Thor’s ex-girlfriend, has been diagnosed with stage 4 terminal cancer. She goes to New Asgard in the hopes that Thor’s hammer Mjolnir, which Hela previously broke[N 2], will be able to heal her if medical therapy fails. Because of an enchantment that Thor unintentionally placed on Mjolnir years ago to protect Foster, it reforged and became attached to her. Gorr’s onslaught starts immediately as Thor gets to New Asgard. Foster holding Mjolnir surprises Thor, who nevertheless joins forces with her, Valkyrie, and Korg to battle Gorr.

Gorr is stopped by the gang, but he manages to get away and abduct several Asgardian kids, holding them captive in the Shadow Realm. In order to alert the other gods and solicit their assistance in building an army, the gang journeys to Omnipotence City. Zeus, the head of the gods, is afraid of Gorr and refuses to aid since he believes they can stay hidden and secure from Gorr in the City. To stop the gang from telling Gorr where the City is, Zeus orders their capture. When Zeus hurts Korg, Thor uses his thunderbolt to impale him, which Valkyrie then grabs as they flee to face Gorr in the Shadow Realm. Thor and Foster restart their romance after he hears of Foster’s cancer diagnosis while they are traveling.
When the gang enters the Shadow Realm, they are unable to find the kids. Foster deduces Gorr’s trap from old pictures that show Thor’s war axe Stormbreaker being used to call the Bifrost and reach the realm of Eternity. To keep Gorr from using Stormbreaker, she discards it. Thor is forced to call it back as Gorr overwhelms the group and threatens to kill Foster. Before Foster loses consciousness due to exhaustion, Gorr successfully snatches Stormbreaker and hurts Valkyrie. When Thor returns to New Asgard, he finds that Foster’s Thor form is preventing her body from fighting cancer on its own.

As a result, Thor makes his way to Eternity’s altar alone and, while he fights Gorr, imbues the kids with his power to confront Gorr’s demons. Foster joins the fight with Mjolnir to save Thor when she realizes Gorr is going to kill him. Gorr is released from its hold once they smash the Necrosword, but the three are taken into the domain of Eternity. Thor begs Gorr to resuscitate his daughter rather than obliterate the gods as he is about to grant Gorr his wish.
Thor then attends to Foster before leaving Gorr to make his choice and watches as she passes away in his arms due to her illness. Gorr is moved by their show and asks Eternity to bring Love back to life, which it does.
Gorr asks Thor to look for Love as he passes away from the curse. In the aftermath, a memorial to Foster is erected and the kids return to New Asgard where Valkyrie and Sif start teaching them. Love is taken under Thor’s wing and accompanies him in his heroic endeavors, with the former wielding Mjolnir and the latter Stormbreaker. In a scene during the credits, a recovering Zeus orders his son Hercules to assassinate Thor in Omnipotence City. In a post-credits sequence, Foster arrives at Valhalla’s gates and is greeted by a revived Heimdall.
