Zack Snyder’s zombie film Army of the Dead launched a new undead franchise in 2021. Since the 2021 movie took over Netflix, a prequel film, Army of Thieves, has been released, and an animated series, Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas, is currently in development. However, as the Army-verse keeps expanding across the streaming service, fans are curious about the series’ upcoming instalment and eagerly awaiting word of a direct sequel.

Fear not, however; Planet of the Dead, the sequel to Army of the Dead, is formally on its way. Given all the unanswered concerns and cliffhangers from the first film, Netflix stated that the horror film had been approved back in July 2021, and we couldn’t be happier. Planet of the Dead has a lot of terrain to cover and questions to address, including impending outbreaks, government intrigues, and even zombie robots.

However, not everyone has the patience of a zombie, and right now, you might be dying to know everything there is to know about Planet of the Dead. To help you prepare for the Army of the Dead 2 release date, The Digital Fix has compiled all the information you want below. So fasten your seatbelt and get ready to face some zombie hordes!

The likely date for Army of the Dead 2’s release is:

Fans of zombies, the bad news: is there isn’t a release date for Army of the Dead 2 yet. The good news is that the movie is unquestionably on its way, and we might hear more about a potential release date sooner rather than later.

The Hollywood Reporter stated in 2021 that production on Planet of the Dead would start as soon as Zack Snyder completed Rebel Moon, his other planned science fiction film for Netflix.

According to the news source, Snyder will spend more time in the Army universe. He is working on a sequel with Shay Hatten, the co-writer of the first film, which he would take on following Rebel Moon.

The earliest time for development on Army of the Dead 2 appears to be in 2023, given that Rebel Moon began filming in April 2022 and the upcoming post-production phase.

Army of The Dead 2 Plot:

Army of The Dead 2 has no official summary; however, given the cliffhanger nature of the previous film’s conclusion, it is pretty clear where the plot of the impending sequel is going. There will be more zombie outbreaks and spoilers!

In the Army-Verse, which was first shown to us in the film Army of the Dead, humans are confined to camps in quarantine since zombies have overrun Las Vegas. There are two varieties of zombies in this universe: Alphas, which are intelligent and move quickly, and Shamblers, which are your normal slow-moving monsters.

In the action film, a group of people united under the leadership of billionaire Bly Tanaka to pull off a massive robbery before the government destroyed the now-undead city of Vegas.

But as you would expect, things didn’t go as planned, especially after it became clear that Tanaka didn’t want the money but rather the head of an Alpha Zombie for some sinister military plans.

We saw many characters die at the end of Army of the Dead and the city of Vegas being attacked by the government. But friends, zombies still exist in the world today.

When that plane lands, Vanderohe will transform into an intelligent Alpha zombie—a.k.a. the hazardous kind—and be let loose on the rest of the globe. The bite most likely originated from the Alpha zombie ruler Zeus.

After Vanderohe’s disclosure, Army of the Dead 2 will probably depict the globe in disarray due to a new, uncontained pandemic. Other unanswered questions from the original film may be addressed in the sequel.

The answers to any of these critical questions haven’t been provided by Snyder much, but he did imply that the sequel will involve yet another robbery. He told Variety, “Shay [Hatten] and I have been discussing the direct Army of the Dead sequel being perhaps a sci-fi actioner with horror aspects. “So that’s a good genre, and it probably has a robbery at its core,” you say.

Snyder also hinted to Inverse that Ludwig Dieter, played by Matthias Schweighöfer, who many fans thought had died in the previous film, would play a role in the forthcoming story. Remember when we last saw him, he appeared to give himself to a furious zombie Zeus to save Vanderohe.

Snyder also stated in an interview with Comicbook.com that zombie robots from the Army-verse are canon. Therefore, we anticipate that this issue will also be covered in the following plot of Army of the Dead 2, which the director mentioned has more sci-fi aspects than its predecessor.

Some sure zombies are not zombies if you look closely. You see regular zombies, then some robot zombies,” the director remarked.

Army of The Dead 2 Cast :

Many of the original cast members are unlikely to feature in Army of the Dead 2 because, as we already established, most characters from Army of the Dead did not survive. Having said that, there is a chance for some actors to reprise their roles from the original thriller movie, much as Snyder suggested that Ludwig might have survived.
